Job Opening: Part-time Marketing and Sales Position

We are currently seeking a motivated individual to assist our Inventory and Sales Team in furthering the mission of Nala through sales. This position will work directly with our small sales force to help market and sell Nala garments to new customers online and in person, as well as continuing to cultivate existing relationships with current customers. This position will require approximately 15 hours a week and is paid. Hours will be flexible and our office is open Monday-Thursday 9:00-5:00, Friday 9:00-12:00, Tuesday evening 5:00-8:30 pm. There will be sales event that will be mandatory. Applicants must be able to commute to and from our Central West End office in STL and to the sales events. 

The ideal candidate would have a background in retail, fashion, or marketing and be a very organized individual. The applicant should have experience in WordPress, MailChimp, social media (Facebook and Instagram), and be able to create content for these platforms. Writing skills and experience in Adobe Creative Suite are a plus. We are looking for an applicant that takes direction well and can stay focused in a busy, office environment. It is also very important that applicants have a cultural awareness and be willing to work alongside our seamstresses.

Duties:

– Maintain Nala website and be responsible for uploading new content
– Cultivate and build new wholesale relationships for Nala
– Perform administrative duties related to sales and wholesales relationships
– Prepare for events and execute events as a Nala representative – these may require nights and weekend availability  
– Create and implement eye-catching content for Facebook, Instagram, and email marketing that is on brand.
– Help plan and execute photo shoots

Internship Opportunities: 

Sales and Marketing Intern:

We are currently seeking an individual to assist our Inventory and Sales Team. This position will be work with our Creative and Sales Teams and will be involved in all things from the time a garment is complete to when it is in the customer’s hands. The internship will last approximately 3 months, with a flexible start date at the end of May or early June, and has flexible hours, ranging from 10-25 hours a week. Our office is open Monday-Thursday 9:00-5:00, Friday 9:00-12:00, Tuesday evening 5:00-8:30 pm and we will work around class and work schedules. There will be some events that are mandatory to attend in this position. This is an unpaid internship (can be for school credit) and interns will be required to have their own laptops and be able to commute back and forth to our Central West End office. The ideal candidate will be a fashion merchandising or business major (who has experience in the fashion industry) and be a very organized individual. The applicant should have experience in Microsoft Word, Google Docs and experience in Adobe Creative Suite is a plus. We are looking for an applicant that takes direction well and is can stay focused in a busy, office environment. It is also very important that an applicant have a cultural awareness and be willing to work alongside our seamstresses.

Duties:

 – Maintain Nala Inventory and assist in implementing new inventory system.
– Perform administrative duties related to sales and wholesales relationships – including web inventory and order fulfillment.
– Prepare for events and help with visual merchandising for events
– Work with our President to create eye-catching content for Facebook, Instagram, and email marketing.
– Assist in creating flyers, tags and marketing materials
– Execute photo shoots to meet standards of Sales Team
– Represent Nala and assist at sales events – these may require nights and weekend availability  
– Assist in forming relationships with boutiques from initial inquiries to pick up and drop off of our garments.

Apparel Design and Production Intern:

We are currently seeking a creative individual to assist in Design and Production. This position will be working directly under our Project Manager, Elizabeth Davelaar and will be involved in all aspects of design and production. This internship is unique because there may be an opportunity to teach new patterns to our seamstresses. The internship will last approximately 3 months, with a flexible start date at the end of May or early June, and has flexible hours, ranging from 10-25 hours a week. Our office is open Monday-Thursday 9:00-5:00, Friday 9:00-12:00, Tuesday evening 5:00-8:30 pm and we will work around class and work schedules.  This is an unpaid internship (can be for school credit) and interns will be required to have their own laptops, preferably with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop software and be able to commute back and forth to our Central West End office.  The ideal candidate will be a fashion design major (or have experience in the fashion industry) and have a solid sewing background. We are looking for a candidate that can blend their design aesthetics with the Nala aesthetics and production requirements. Pattern making experience is also a huge plus, as is any experience in the Adobe Creative Suite. We are looking for an applicant that takes direction well and can stay focused in a busy, office environment. It is also very important that an applicant have a cultural awareness and be willing to work alongside our seamstresses. Because we are a smaller organization, there is potential that items you design could be in our next collection!

Duties:

  • Research trends and sourcing options
  • Forecast for future seasons
  • Help develop design direction and sketch design ideas
  • Make technical packages
  • Perform quality control for both our US program and for East Africa shipments
  • Assist in pattern making
  • Create samples and help develop instructions for our US program and our East Africa program
  • Occasionally assist with general office duties, including order fulfillment
  • Help teach our US based seamstresses and be open to working side-by-side with them
